If you want to talk to some real people(!), find out what we are like and make some new friends then come along to the Packhorse pub (opposite Civil Engineering) at 9pm on a Wednesday. There's always some of us in the front upstairs room.
Alternatively, for some general banter and a quick way to introduce yourself, visit our Facebook group here.
You will also find many of us at the Leeds Wall on Monday evenings and Wednesday afternoons. We also run sessions at the smaller climbing wall in the university gym on Thursdays from 8-10pm.
SocialsBesides the Wednesday night socials and climbing trips, we also have other social events such as...
- Otley-runs (pub crawls)
- A bouldering competition
- The Christmas Celidh
- The Annual Dinner
The Christmas Celidh involves dressing up (which the boys get more enthusiastic about than the girls), live music from a local Celidh band, and "some" alcohol too. This little jamboree has claimed quite a few and the injury toll afterwards is often greater than all our climbing trips put together. It's a good laugh though with no obligation to drink if you don't want to and an awesome way to round up the long drawn out Autumn term!
The Annual Dinner changes from year to year, it can either be a large simple meal at one of the huts or a full 3 course meal at a restaurant in Leeds. It's all down to the Committee and how they're feeling!
In the past we've also had trips ice-skating in Millenium Square and paintballing and may arrange these again depending on level of interest.
The first two day-trips of the year are open to anyone to come and try climbing with or without membership. Don't worry if you have never been before as our older members are very experienced and will teach you. If you miss the opportunity to attend both of those sessions then the same also applies to your first trip with us any other time of the year. Any further trips will require club membership.
Club membership for the year costs £35, but only £30 if you sign up before the end of freshers' week. You can also buy it for just one term at £20. It can be bought on the Leeds University Union Website here. This goes towards subsidising trips (food, transport, accomodation and insurance), subsidising social events and replacing and maintaining club gear.
Each weekend trip you decide to go on may require an additional cost to cover transport, an evening meal, accommodation and insurance. We can assure you this is a bargain, and far cheaper than doing it with a small group!
For more information on the when-and-where's of trips and socials planned for this year, please visit the events section.
Not a member of Leeds University? You can create a guest account on the Leeds University Union website and buy membership there with that.
